An earth tremor measuring 3.0 magnitude on the Richter scale was reported in Buttala, Wellawaya areas, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) said.
Director General of GSMB, Ajith Prema said the tremor was felt by those residing in the areas today(10) afternoon.
“Our seismic stations in Buttala sugar factory premises, Hakmana, Pallekelle and Buddhangala have recorded this earth tremor at 12.13 pm. This is not a severe earthquake and damages to the property has not been reported, and no aftershocks” he said.
The GSMB has informed the Disaster Management Centre and is monitoring the situation.
“This is definitely not from man-made causes and a naturally triggered earth tremor,” Mr. Prema said.
