Three persons including the owner of the ferry which capsised killing six people in Kuringankerni lagoon have been arrested, police said.
The two others arrested were operators of the passenger ferry. Two were arrested after producing themselves at the Trincomalee police while one was arrested after arriving at Kinniya police.
Six persons including four children drowned and 20 others were hospitalised from the tragedy that triggered anger among residents in Kinniya. An inquiry into the incident has commenced on the orders of Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath. Meanwhile, a bus service by the Sri Lanka Transport Board has commenced between Kuringankerni and Kinniya.
