Due to the sudden death of animals in northern and eastern provinces the president had ordered an immediate suspension of transportation of beef and mutton at district and provincial levels to ensure public health safety.
With temperatures reaching low levels on Thursday night cattle and goats which were acclimated to hot weather conditions started dying.
The farmers were forced to keep fires burning in cattle sheds and roadsides to keep the herds of cattle and goats.
The adverse weather also caused by cyclone “Mandous was not only restricted to the animals. It left a trail of destruction and damage in many areas of the country.
Most houses were damaged as high winds blew off the roofs, while in other incidents trees had been toppled over houses crushing and damaging houses. Even electricity connections in some areas too were disrupted as electricity poles had been toppled due to strong winds.
In some upcountry areas trees, boulders had fallen on roads restricting transportation.
According to the Disaster Management centre statistics three deaths and fifteen injuries of persons were reported. Most of the disaster incidents had occurred as a result of toppling of trees due to strong winds.
There were 10434 persons affected by adverse weather conditions while 3006 families were affected. There were two houses fully damaged while 2721 houses were partially affected.
