The GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) and Advanced Level (A/L) students will now have the opportunity to complete a curriculum that covers five fundamental areas of vocational education while still enrolled in school due to a new programme the government has decided to launch.
Minister Bandula Gunawardana, the Cabinet's spokesman, told the media that the project was created to help students who pass the Ordinary Level examinations up till they begin the Advanced Level or those who pass the Advanced Level exams.
He stated that the programme is primarily designed to improve soft skills along with IT and English abilities, which are often crucial for vocational education.
The Education Minister's request to launch the suggested curriculum as a pilot project has been approved by the Cabinet.
In light of this, the pilot programme will be executed for 3–4 months in 320 chosen schools, spanning every level of instruction on the island.
Based on the outcomes of the pilot project, it has also been decided to launch this project as a national programme in 2024.
