Governor of the Western Province Governor Hanif Yusuf has lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) calling for an investigation about reports claiming he was connected with the release of red-flagged containers from the Port last week.
Mr Yusuf told the media he was expecting that the CID carries out a speedy inquiry into the allegations.
His complaint came after allegations were levelled that 330 red-flagged containers were released from the Colombo port without carrying proper checks.
The Sri Lanka Customs in a statement explained the procedures followed in releasing containers and denied that containers were released without any checks.
The Customs said that there was no risk of illegal imports of firearms, gold, or narcotics coming to the country.
