Accepting of nominations for the General Election will commence today ( July 06). Nominations will be accepted until the 13th of this month. Independent groups have commenced placing deposits, local media reported.
Deposits of Rs.2,000 per candidate representing independent groups will be accepted until July 13 while there will be no deposits from the 64 registered and recognised political parties.
Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya was quoted by local media as saying that applications for postal votes can be made from August 3 – 10.
Meanwhile The first nomination in the Jaffna District was submitted by Jenaseda Peramuna Party.
The police beef up the security measures island wide District Secretariats where nominations will be submitted.
