Actor Ryan Van Rooyen who was deported from Dubai has been remanded until April 11 by Matara Magistrate Isuru Netticumara today (Apr 24).
Mr. Rooyen has been charged after 5.7 grams of kerala cannabis was found in his car recently following his arrest along with druglord 'Makandure Madush' in Dubai last month.
The vehicle was found at a tourst hotel in Mirissa which belogns to Amila Prasanna Hettige alias 'Sunshine Sudda' who was also arrested in Dubai.
Accordingly, police today requested court to remand the suspect in order to carry out further investigations on the suspect.
However, attorney Ranjith Ratnayake who represented the suspect had sought bail on behalf of his client since the charges were levelled against him while he was overseas.
The vehicle in which the cannabis was found had been registered to the name of a woman in Uswetakeiyawa, police told court during the hearing.
Constable D.W. Sepala who is attached to the Matara Police had represented the prosecution upon the instructions of Matara OIC Gayanga Hasantha Marapana

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
