The Attorney General (AG) today (Sept 4) requested the Supreme Court to reject the affidavits of Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara who has been accused of failing to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks.
The request was made when 12 petitions against Mr Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando were taken up for hearing before a seven-member judge bench headed by the Chief Justice.
Both officials have been accused of failing to prevent the attacks despite receiving intelligence reports prior to the incident.
During today's hearing, the AG argued that Mr. Jayasundara, in three sections of his affidavit, had made a "false and baseless" allegation, that the President and the AG had been plotting to file a case against him.
The AG further said that the allegation also involved State Intelligence Service Director Nilantha Jayawardena.
