Investigations are continuing after a Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) airman attached to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) was arrested by Customs officers while trying to smuggle a quantity of gold.
The 32-year-old airman, a resident of Dehiaththakandiya, had been arrested at the BIA's Departure Lounge this morning while in possession of 2.64 kilograms of gold strapped to his legs.
It is thought he was trying to hand over the gold to someone who was waiting at the lounge.
