Cabinet approval given to reduce kerosene price

Cabinet has granted approval to reduce the price of kerosene to Rs.70 per litre. Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa had submitted the Cabinet Memorandum on this regard today. 

The Government had recently increased the price of kerosene sharply from Rs.44 per litre to Rs.101 per litre. The price revision also saw the increase of petrol and diesel prices, though it was kerosene, which was raised by Rs.57, that had the biggest rise. 

The move to reduce the kerosene price comes after weeks of vocal protests by fishermen, who have been demanding a reduction in prices.
