An officer from the Central Environmental Authority's (CEA) Jaffna office was seriously injured after being attacked with sharp weapons this morning (8) in front of the Jaffna District Secretariat.
The officer was on his way to work on his motorbike when several unidentified assailants who had arrived on motorbikes allegedly set upon him and attacked him with sharp weapons. The assailants then escaped on their motorbikes.
The motive for the attack is still unclear.
The injured officer was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Police said they are analysing CCTV footage from near the Jaffna District Secretariat to identify and arrest those involved.
