The supply of fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board was suspended from midnight yesterday (Jun 30), petroleum unions said citing issues concerning oil pipelines.
Minister Ravi Karunanayake's move to suspend the laying of a pipeline from the Colombo Port to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC)'s storage terminal in Kolonnawa has been cited as the main reason for the stoppage of fuel supply.
CPC unions claimed that the Power and Energy Minister had suspended the laying of a 140-metre long oil pipeline - a remaining part of the five kilometre pipeline which is under construction.
However, Petroleum Resources Minister Kabir Hashim said this issue would be resolved with the intervention of the Prime Minister in near future.
