The Ceylon Teacher's Services Union (CTSU) will complain to the Presidential Secretariat over measures being taken to make unlawful appointments to the post of Principals.
On a previous occasion, the Public Service Commission (PSC) had temporarily suspended the appointments of 302 individuals as principals of national schools. This was done since the PSC had disapproved the selection criteria that was adopted in this regard.
However, the CTSU claimed that Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam is now attempting to proceed with the appointments by exerting undue pressure on the PSC.
The union said so by pointing out that PSC officials have been instructed to report before the Prime Minister’s office on Monday.
Accordingly, the teachers union body said that it would address a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow (Mar 17) seeking his intervention in order to prevent these illegal appointments from taking place.
