Disabled soldier killed in road accident

A disabled former soldier was killed and a young woman injured due to a head-on collision between a trishaw and a private bus at Puwakpitiya along the Galewela-Dambulla main road last night. 

The deceased has been identified by police as 46-year-old M.G. Shanthasiri. He is a disabled former soldier who was blind in one eye. He was a father of three. He had gone to Galewela to pick up one of his daughters from a tuition class. However, as she was late, he had given a lift to a young woman who lived close by his house when the incident occured. 

The injured female, aged 22, is currently receiving treatment at the Galewela Hospital. 

The bus driver and conductor have both been taken into custody. Galewela police are investigating.
