Three cranes to be fitted to the East Container Terminal (ECT) are to be discharged tomorrow (Wednesday) for which prior preparations are currently ongoing at the Colombo Port.
It is learnt that the authorities have been compelled to discharge these three cranes after delaying it since it arrived on June 20. The cranes were initially imported to be fitted for the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) 5.
Though the discharging of the cranes will take place tomorrow, it is learnt that they will not be commissioned. Commissioning of the cranes need to be carried out by the relevant company from which it was purchased.
However, since the vessel from China that brought the cranes need to return on July 5 the authorities need to discharge the cranes. (Sunimalee)
