Fire at building of Mahamodara Maternity Hospital doused

A fire broke out at the premises of the Mahamodara Maternity Hospital last morning (9). However, it was doused within minutes by the Galle Fire Brigade. 

The hospital's Director Dr Sumith Manatunga said the fire broke out at about 1.30am at the top floor of a building housing resident doctors. Nine doctors were on the top floor of the building when the fire occurred, but hospital employees managed to evacuate them all out unharmed. 

The building where the fire broke out is an old building and it is suspected that an electrical short-circuit was the cause of the fire. However, all equipment and other items in the section have been destroyed by the fire.
