A fire erupted in the early hours of today at Meetotamulla 55 Watta area, in Kolonnawa near a canal where waste oil had been dumped.The Colombo Fire Extinguishing Department told local media the fire has been contained.
However, it has been reported that hree shanty houses have been destroyed while several other houses were damaged.
Reports suggets that the fire broke out close to a storage facility of the Ceylon Electricity Board damaging three houses in the area.
Ajith Gallage, the owner of a Bird Park in Nagarawawa, Hambantota, has been remanded over allegations of concealing illegally imported motorcycles, in a warehouse owned by him.
