Fishermen throughout the country have been advised not to go out for fishing for the next three days as rough sea conditions are expected due the cyclonic storm Burevi set to hit the country later today (2).
Director General Fisheries S.J. Kahawatta said that owners of small boats have been told to draw in their boats into land areas while the trawler owners have been told to anchor their vessels in the fishing harbours.
The Ministry said, as seas around the country will be rough due to the cyclonic storm there is a possibility of boats being swept to the sea.
He said trawlers already in the sea have been told to divert from the path of the cyclonic pathway due to enter the country from the north eastern coast.
“Sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai and in Pooneryn to Puttalam may experience surges due to the effect of swell waves, having 2-3 m height.
