Five persons have been arrested over a narcotic racket which had been carried out through a mobile cash transaction service.
Police had inititally arrested four persons who had been travelling in a van in Kurunegala along with 14.2 grams of heroin and cash worth Rs 1.3 million.
Among the suspects were the driver aged 33, his wife aged 29, another 28-year old individual and his wife aged 26. A search operation at the driver's residence in Mallawapitiya had then led to the recovery of 3.6 grams of heroin.
Upon questioning of the driver, police had uncovered information about a 57-year old former Air Force officer who had been supplying narcotics to these individuals. He too had been arrested afterwards.
After being produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court, three suspects were remanded until September 20 while two others are being questioned until September 14 on detention orders issued by court.
