A forest fire which erupted this morning in the Panangala area in Ettampitiya is still raging according to the Disaster Management Center.
The Centre claimed that officials have yet to bring the fire under control.
A group of Air Force officers assigned to the Sri Lanka Air force Combat Training School in Diyatalawa and the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) have been deployed to douse the fire, Air Force Spokesperson Group Captain Gihan Seneviratne said.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
