Former Northern Provincial Council Minister Anandi Shashidharan has urged that security must be tightened in the Northern Province while also ensuring that security personnel are not removed from the area.
The former Provincial Minister of Women Affairs and Rehabilitation said that despite previously calling for the removal of the Army from the North, such personnel along with the Police are required for security due to the current situation of the country.
Commenting on last Sunday's attacks, Ms Shashidharan said that the government must bear entire responsibility for these incidents which could have been prevented if security measures were taken in accordance with the prior warnings issued by the State Intelligency Service.
While emphasising the need to be united in order to defeat terrorism within the country, the former Provincial Minister urged the government take every step possible to protect the people and preserve peace in the country, the MInister said speaking to media.
Individuals involved in Islamic extremist groups which are linked with international terrorist elements must be immediately arrested, Ms. Shashidharan added.
