A gazette is to be issued today (Sept 09) naming the Parliamentarian who would fill the vacancy in Parliament following the demise of Salinda Dissanayake, the Elections Commission said.
Mr. Dissanayake represented the Kurunegala District under the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) ticket.
EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya noted that the Kurunegala District Returning Office would nominate a name to fill the void.
Meanwhile, the EC is expected to convene a meeting today to discuss matters concerning the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections which is to be held on October 11.

An interim order prohibiting Deshabandu Tennakoon from carrying out his duties as Inspector General of Police (IGP) has been issued by the Supreme Court.
