The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has set up a dengue ‘action committee’ to combat the prevailing dengue issue in the country.
This decision was taken after the GMOA claimed that the government has been mishandling the current situation of dengue.
The dengue action committee in a meeting held today comprising both curative and preventive sector specialists and doctors decided to forward a proposal to the President within this week after they claimed lack of efficiency was portrayed by the Health Minister in the task.
Addressing the media briefing, the GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said that the proposal will discuss matters of appointing district level coordinators to high prone dengue areas.
He said that the said established Presidential task force for the dengue control activity should be active in both district and divisional levels comprising the public health inspector, grama niladhari and samurdhi officers to combat dengue diseases so that grass root level will be actively involved in the cause.
Dr. Aluthge stated that with the recent floods and the current issue of garbage disposal has will lead to a rise in dengue patients in the future.
