A group of memebers attached to Joint Opposition (JO) including former Chairman of Deraniyagala Pradeshiya Sabha, Anura Kuruppu and its Deputy Chairman, L. T. Wijeywardena pledged their support to President Maithripala Sirisena for his political movement, Presidential Secretariat said.
Also, former member of Dehiovita Pradeshiya Sabha, Thomas Chaminda and the Secretary to the UNP Local Committee of Deraniyagala, A. V. Piyarathne joined the SLFP and pledged support to the President.
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
