The Education Ministry has introduced a hotline to provide information regarding instances of parents and students who have been inconvenienced due to unapproved regulations at schools.
Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has also instructed Secretary Nihal Ranasinghe to probe such incidents with immediate effect, the Ministry said in a press release today (May 23).
The Ministry's press release noted that instructions have not been issued to prevent students from carrying backpacks in order to strengthen security arrangements at schools.
On the same lines, the Ministry objected to instances during which money had been collected from parents and students by claiming to be used in purchasing security equipment.
Accordingly the public could inform authorities regarding such instances on the folowing hotline - 1988
