Immigration officers have warned of engaging in trade union action if the government fails to resolve their demands by tomorrow (Oct 4).
S. Kanugala, President of the Immigration Officers Union said that the authorities have repeatedly failed to resolve their issues over the past years.
The proposed trade union action would see the services of Immigration officers being affected at airports and ports.
He claimed that the President's instructions and the Prime Minister's committee appointed to resolve their issues after their trade union action last year, proved futile.
The union president added that the Salariy Review Commission appointed by the President too had failed to submit recommendations to resolve the issues in their sector.
Kanugala further claimed that the Minister of Internal and Home Affairs under whom the Immigration Department has been vested with, had failed to bring their issues before the cabinet as promised.
The union President said that the management of the Immigration Department should be responsible for any inconveniences faced by the public.
