The annual festival of the Jaffna Nallur Kovil commenced on Saturday (25) under strict health guidelines.
As per the health guidelines in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 500 devotees are allowed to attend the festival on a daily basis.
Devotees who attend the festival must wear masks and have their National Identity Cards in their possession. Foreigners attending the festival must present their quarantine certificates and results of PCR tests.
The kovil trustees noted that 2020 will go down in history as the festival attended by the lowest number of devotees owing to the pandemic. They held a special pooja on Saturday invoking the blessings of the gods to ensure that devotees could attend the festival as normal from next year.
