There was heightened activity at the Welikada Prison today (7) following confirmation that an inmate at the prison had tested positive for COVID-19.
The Department of Prisons announced that visitors will not be allowed at the prison until further notice while 177 contacts of the patient detected from the prison were sent for PCR testing.
Meanwhile, authorities also started conducting PCR tests on inmates and Prison Officers at the Welikada Prison.
