Urging the Central and the State governments to take immediate steps to secure the release of 14 fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday, Rameswaram fishermen have threatened to launch an indefinite strike if the governments failed to secure the release by June 12. Condemning the arrest in the very beginning of the new fishing season, leaders of 11 mechanised boat fishermen associations met here on Wednesday and adopted a resolution urging the Central and State governments to secure the immediate release of the fishermen.
