The Inland Revenue Department has written to the Treasury seeking to resolve its Rs 100 billion loss this year, a senior official told Times Online.
According to the official, the main reasons behind the massive loss were centered on the reduction in imports and the Easter Sunday attacks.
The official explained that the concessions given to hotels over their loans and interest payments by the government after the attacks have indirectly affected their earnings.
In a bid to revive the tourism industry, hoteliers were granted concessions by the government after the terrorist bombings in April.
In addition, the senior official noted that the reduction in imports has also caused losses to the Department due to fewer tax payments being made as a result of this situation.
