The Colombo High Court today convicted a Judicial Management Assistant attached to the District/Magistrate Court of Puttalam for accepting a bribe worth of Rs.4500. Accordingly, the High Court Judge Mr. Gihan Kulathunge sentenced the accused for 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of Rs. 10000 and a penalty of Rs.4500. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) led the prosecution.
The Courts was told that the accused demanded a sum of Rs.6000 and reduce it to Rs.4500 to assist the complainant to reduce the monthly maintenance payment of Rs. 12,000 which should be paid by the complainant on a maintenance case no. 230007/16/P2 where the complainant was a Respondent.
After the complainant informed the CIABOC regarding the incident, the accused was taken into custody at a raid organized by the investigation officers of CIABOC when obtaining a bribe of Rs.4500 from the complainant.
