The No-Confidence Motion (NCM) handed over by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) to the Speaker today (May 21) accuses the Prime Minister, Cabinet and the Government of "criminal negligence" for failing to take action to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks despite receiving ample evidence beforehand.
The NCM lists out in detail incidents where intelligence relating to the terrorists who carried out the attack and of plans for the attack were allegedly relayed to the Government, but notes that no action was taken.
It also alleges that after the attacks, the PM and Ministers of the Government refused to take responsibility and tried to pass off blame onto others, making false statements in the process and creating a sense of confusion and insecurity among the populace.
The NCM notes that certain Ministers of the Government had also allegedly tried to obstruct investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks.
The JVP also accuses the Government of not taking enough measures to prevent the violence that took place in the Gampaha area and the North-Western Province on May 13, including murder and damage to property, despite there being adequate laws to do so.
