A protest was staged by the area residents of Kalapitiya today (Mar 18) demanding the renovation of the main road from Kalapitiya to Harangala which runs for nearly nine kilometres.
Some 500 people took to the streets and obstructed the Pundaluoya-Nawalapitiya main road to protest against the failure by the relevant authorities to address this issue.
Agitated protestors were reported to have burnt tyres and shouted slogans.
They claimed that several requests made to politicians and the relevant authorities to repair the dilapidated road had fallen on deaf ears.
Accordingly, the protestors were urging the Road Development Authority to take swift measures to resolve this issue.
