The Lakdiva Engineering Company has earned a profit of Rs 35 million by repairing 107 buses between January and August this year, the Ministry of Transport said.
This was revealed by the Ministry in a progress report of the company which was released during the opening of its emission testing center last week.
The Lakdiva Engineering Company is a state-owned body which renovates and repairs dilapidated buses belonging to the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
"Earlier, this company had repaired only about seven buses for a month. Now 15 buses are being repaired monthly. We hope to increase this figure up to 20," Transport Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said at the event.
He added that a centre to repair Japanese vehicles too would be set-up by Lakdiva Engineering Company in the near future.
