President Sirisena expressed heartfelt condolences to people of Tamil Nadu over the passing away of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam
(DMK) chief and five time Chief Minister late M. Karunanidhi yesterday at Kavuri hospital, Chennai.
Hours after the official announcement of passing away of five time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu came, President Maithriapa Sirisena took to official Twitter account to express his condolences in Tamil - "I'm deeply saddened to hear the passing away of M.Karunanidhi, the most senior leader of Tamil Nadu,"
Meanwhile , Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed his condolences in an official twitter message both in English and Tamil that he is deeply saddened by the demise of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Kalaignar Karunanidhi. "His contributions to Tamil literature, cinema, & politics are unparalleled. I join the millions of people who are mourning. My deepest condolences to the family & people of Tamil Nadu," he said.
