The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) has said that steps would be taken to dismantle or remove the cargo vessel which crashed onto the rocks in Rummassala, Galle recently.
The vessel named 'Sri Lanka Glory' had washed up on the Rummassala coast due to the inclement weather experienced recently, and has posed a great threat to the Buona Vista coral reef in the area since then.
MEPA General Manager Turney Perera however stated that the fuel from the ship has already been removed. The vessel is believed to have carried around 22 tonnes of fuel at the time of the incident.
