Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has been asked to appear before the presidential commission probing state sector corruption today (Sept 2) for allegedly intimidating a witness who gave evidence in a case concerning him.
I.M.K.B. Illangasinghe, a Director at the Education Ministry had complained that he had been subjected to an inquiry after testifying over a case involving the printing of text books with colour photographs of the minister, a Commission Spokesman said.
During a commission hearing, Mr. Ilangasinghe had pointed out that colour photographs of the minister had been printed on text books upon his instructions and had caused a massive expenditure to the ministry.
However, the Minister had refuted such claims after being summoned before the police unit of the presidential commission.
