Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardena has queried the grounds on which Western Governor Azath Salley had claimed that Dr Mohamed Shafi of the Kurunegal Hospital had not committed any offence.
"The Police has handed over the doctor to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for questioning. However, Governor Azath Salley has already declared that the suspect is innocent," MP Abeygunawardena said yesterday (May 27).
He alleged that the Governor was releasing statements on behalf of the doctor to paint a rosy picture of the latter.
"This Governor had said that court judges had links with terrorists. However, he has not been questioned on the matter so far. This is a problem to the country," Mr. Abeygunawardena pointed out.
The parliamentarian made this remarks during a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) press conference yesterday.
