National Disaster Relief Center to be strengthened

In the aftermath of last month's flood and landslide disaster, the Government has decided to strengthen the National Disaster Relief Center (NDRC). 

The Government said that the disaster relief mechanism at district and divisional level must be strengthened. 

 Accordingly, a proposal made by Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa to fill vacancies in the NDRC with immediate effect, attach a Disaster Relief Officer to each Divisional Secretary's Division, and to create new posts for essential duties, was approved Cabinet.
