Navy personnel attached to the North-Western Naval Command have seized 1232.5 kilograms of beedi leaves which were found floating in the seas off Udappuwa.
It has been reported that the contraband had been packed in 35 parcels.
The seized beedi leaves were intended to be smuggled into the country illegally, Navy said.
Further investigations on the seizure are being carried out by the Sinnappadu Customs Department.
Following this seizure, the total haul of beedi leaves which have been seized by the Navy this year stood at 7000 kilograms.
