Former Secretary of the Sri Lanka Working Journalists' Association (SLWJA) Poddala Jayantha lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today requesting an investigation into his abduction and torture in 2009.
Mr. Jayantha, who was then the General Secretary of the SLWJA, was abducted by unidentified individuals who arrived in a white van in June, 2009. He was severely beaten and tortured by his abductors. He was later found dumped at a roadside and admitted to hospital.
The veteran journalist and prominent media rights activists later fled the country in fear of his life.
Mr. Jayantha today, arrived at the CID with a group of journalists and media rights activists where he lodged a complaint requesting that a probe be conducted to find those behind his abduction and torture.
