Police secured a Court order to stop a protest organized by Sri Lanka Thawheed Jama'ath (SLTJ) calling for the Muslim burial rights of COVID-19 victims infront of the Presidential Secretariat today.
SLTJ organized the protest to demand Muslim burial rights of COVID-19 victims saying cremation of the dead is not allowed in Islamic faith.
Over 15 persons of Islamic faith including a 20 day baby were cremated in recent weeks after the government introduced a mandatory cremation for the victims of COVID-19.
