President Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to step down from the chairmanship of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has created confusion and uncertainty in the party, particularly among party organisers, party sources said.
On Tuesday, the President appointed Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa as the Acting Chairman of the Party (SLFP), the sources said, adding that this appointment will be valid until the end of the presidential election.
The decision was based on the President deciding to take a neutral stance and allowing the SLFP parliamentary group to support SLPP candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
However the decision was been conveyed to the SLFP Central committee and around 160 party organizers and district leaders countrywide creating confusion and a dilemma among SLFP supporters, they said. (Bandula)
