Area residents in the Kalpitiya Peninsula have blocked the access road into the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochcholai this morning (8) in protest at continued power outages in the area.
Power has been out throughout the entire Kalpitiya Peninsula since last night and it has also experienced prolonged power outages throughout this week, leading to angry protests by residents.
With the access road into the power plant blocked by villagers, employees of the power plant were seen stuck inside buses on the road, unable to make their way to their work stations.
Area residents allege such prolonged power outages in the peninsula are having a severe negative impact on their farming and other day-to-day activities.
