The government has requested the public to hoist Buddhist flags in their residences, religious places and other institutions in keep with the 'Tripitakabhivandana' week which is set to get underway today (Mar 16).
The Tripitakabhivandana Week has been declared as part of the initiating the process in order to declare the sacred scriptures of the Tripitaka in the World Heritage list.
A proposal to include these scriptures on the world heritage list would be presented to UNESCO on March 23 at the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
Several religious ceremonies have been organised by the Presidential Secretariat, Ministry of Buddha Sasana, and the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs in collaboration to commemorate this special week. 'Sound Offerings' will also take place from from 6.00 pm to 6.15 pm throughout this week.
Meanwhile, a special programme to construct buildings for Sunday Damma Schools in 226 temples will commence on March 17.
