Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, who twice served as Prime Minister, passed away a short while ago. He was 83.
Mr.Wickremanayake first entered Parliament in 1960 winning the Horana electorate by contesting on the MEP ticket.
Two years later he joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and went onto become Prime Minister twice, first under President Chandrika Kumaratunga between 2000-2001 and then under President Mahinda Rajapaksa between 2005-2010.
He also served as Minister of Public Administration, Homes Affairs and Planation Industries, Leader of the House and Leader of the Opposition during his long years as a parliamentarian.
Mr.Wickremanayake quit politics in in 2010 due to ill health.
His son Vidura Wickremanayake was elected MP in 2010.
