The remains of the bomber who attacked the Zion Church in Batticaloa have been exhumed from the Kalliyakandu cemetery today (Aug 2), Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
The remains had been exhumed in the presence of the Batticaloa Magistrate, the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO), and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers.
Mr. Gunasekara noted that the remains have been placed at the morgue of the Batticaloa Hospital under Police protection. It would be buried at a different location upon instructions of the Batticaloa District Secretary.
Area residents had protested against the burial of the bomber's remains at the Kalliyakandu cemetery which had been carried out upon court orders.
However, the court had ordered the exhumation of the remains after Batticaloa District Secretary M. Udayakumar submitted a motion to the court explaining the situation in the area.
