Nalaka Godahewa, controversial Chairman of Sri Lanka’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has not stepped down as earlier reported and is 'actively at work', SEC officials said on Tuesday.
“He came to work yesterday and today,” one official said. On Friday, Godahewa had told senior SEC officials that he was planning to resign.
However on Monday, he surprised officials by reporting to work and was in his seat on Tuesday. The SEC chairman was allegedly involved in some doubtful transactions including the Krissh real estate development deal. On Monday, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, one of the constituent partners of the new regime, said they plan to file complaints before anti-bribery authorities against allegedly corrupt officials including Godahewa. – Ends -
