Local tourists will be able to visit the Sigiriya historical site and the Sigiriya museum free-of-charge from May 18 - 20, the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) announced today (May 16).
According to the CCF, the decision had been taken in keeping with the Vesak Festival and the National Museum Day.
During this three-day period, artefacts which had been excavated from Sigiriya will be put on display while educational programmes will also take place in the area, CCF Project Manager Retired Major Anura Nishantha told media.
Major Nishantha added that army personnel will be deployed from May 18 - 20 for security at the historic site.
