Six suspects were arrested with firearms around the country yesterday (May 03), Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
A self-automatic pistol with seven rounds of ammunition, an Air Pistol and an Air Rifle were discovered upon inspection of a car at a road block in Kandy.
The suspects have been identified as residents of Gampola, Ampitiya, and Kandy.
Meanwhile, a pistol and a magazine manufactured in Germany were also seized from a residence in Marawila yesterday, the Police Spokesman said.
In addition, a locally manufactured firearm was also seized along with two rounds of ammunition used to fire 90-mm guns.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
